Tupelo High fall sports report 3.44 GPA

Per a release from THS athletic director Andy Schoggin, 21 fall sports revealed their GPA for the 1st semester of 2013-2014.

“This is a direct reflection on the emphasis our coaches place on the term ‘student-athlete'”, said Schoggin. “We had a very successful fall sports season and these numbers represent academic success inside the classroom as well.”

Here’s the individual breakdown:

  • football – 3.24
  • volleyball – 3.72
  • tennis – 3.94
  • slow-pitch softball – 3.84
  • baseball – 3.7
  • cross country (boys) – 3.58
  • cross country (girls) – 4.0 [96.1 average]
  • swim (boys) – 3.8
  • swim (girls) – 3.8
  • cheer (Varsity) – 3.58
  • cheer (9th grade) – 3.53
  • soccer (boys) – 3.5
  • soccer (girls) – 3.8
  • basketball (boys) – 3.18
  • basketball (girls) – 3.36
  • bowling (boys) – 3.19
  • bowling (girls) -3.4
  • powerlifting (boys) – 3.6
  • golf (boys) – 3.6
  • golf (girls) – 3.9

582 students from 9th-12th grades totaled these 21 sports. Cross country was the largest with 106 athletes while girls golf has two. Overall, the average GPA for each sport was 3.44.

“I’m proud of these results,” said third-year THS principal Jason Harris. “This is a true reflection of our outstanding coaches and student-athletes at THS. When you have GPAs over 3.0, students are obviously placing a priority on their academics.”
