THS football will be hitting the 2013 gridiron six weeks from tomorrow. Recently-hired Trent Hammond, who had the reigns at Amory High last season, and a revised staff look to rebound them from a disappointing 4-7 season in 2012. Let’s take a premature look at their upcoming schedule.
They’ll open the 2013 season at Golden Wave Stadium August 23rd against the 2010 and 2011 4A champions, Lafayette County. Lafayette defeated THS in 2012, 8-3, in a defensive game that saw zero offensive touchdowns.
THS will travel three-straight weeks (at Center Hill, at Shannon, at Saltillo). Look for the Shannon and Saltillo games to be the talk of Lee County for 14 days. Saltillo replaces Starkville, now a 6A school, from the 2012 season.
After an open week September 20th, Tupelo will open division play at Hernando, a new opponent in 6A-Region 1. The Tigers went 3-8, 1-6 as a 5A team last season.
The Golden Wave will host division rivals Grenada October 4th and Southaven (Homecoming) October 11th. THS defeated GHS 35-14 but lost to SHS 14-10 in 2012.
2012’s 6A champion, South Panola, will host THS October 18th.
THS will conclude by hosting DeSoto Central October 25th, traveling to Horn Lake November 1st, and hosting Senior Night against the 2011 6A champ, Olive Branch, November 8th.
All games, with the exception of the jamboree, will begin at 7 p.m. This new format was put in by MHSAA a few months back.
