FOOTBALL: Party like it’s 1992! Tupelo did what most predicted impossible and knocked off the defending 6A state champions at Golden Wave Field last Friday. The Golden Wave beat South Panola 12-3 in the 6A North Half championship in front of a 2013 season-record crowd. The win was the first over the Tigers since 2001 and snapped South Panola’s 25-game winning streak over Mississippi teams dating back to 2011. Tupelo now prepares for 6A South champion, the Oak Grove Warriors. This is Tupelo football’s fourth trip to Jackson (1990, 1991, 1992).
Friday’s Class 6A finals at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson will stream LIVE at www.misshsaa.tv and televise on Mississippi Public Broadcasting at 7:30.
BASKETBALL: Golden Wave basketball (3-2) traveled to Corinth’s Lighthouse Classic Friday and defeated Biggersville. The traveled to the Capital Challenge at Clinton High and lost to Velma Jackson yesterday. Lady Wave basketball (6-0) defeated Oxford to capture the Lady Charger Shootout trophy last Monday. Both teams will reschedule their contest Friday at Oxford due to both schools football programs playing in Jackson. The boys will play Corinth in the Baldwyn Shootout Saturday.
SOCCER: Both teams had last week off. The Golden Wave (3-0) will travel to Northwest Rankin Friday and West Jones Saturday. The Lady Wave (4-0) will also be in the West Jones tournament Friday and Saturday.
BOWLING: Boys defeated Olive Branch 8-0 in Southaven last Monday. Both teams will battle Pontotoc Thursday, December 12th at Rebelanes.
