Review, Preview, and Blankets of the Week (December 22)

FOOTBALL: RB Quinn Tiggs, LB James Gilleylen, and K Reed Bigham participated in the 65th Benard Blackwell All-Star Classic at Milner Stadium at Gulfport High Saturday. The South won the contest 24-9. Bigham, who nailed a 48-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter, was named North Offensive MVP. Gilleylen, a University of Tennessee-Martin commit, had six tackles and received the Bill Stewart Award for sportsmanship and character. Tiggs finished his high school career with three rushes for 12 yards and one catch for nine yards.

BASKETBALL: Lady Wave basketball (10-0) remained undefeated after beating No. 8 Pontotoc at Warrior Gym Friday night. The win was Coach Matt Justice’s 50th of his career. The Lady Wave will face Ripley in the Booneville Christmas Classic at 6:30 Friday and Corinth at noon Saturday.

Golden Wave (5-5) dropped a tough battle to Pontotoc. The boys will host Antioch (TN) Monday night at 6 p.m. This will be a boys ONLY game. THS will travel to Gulfport Thursday to face Pascagoula in the Hardwood Classic. Their opponents Friday will be determined after a win or loss.

SOCCER: Both Lady Wave and Golden Wave soccer matches were cancelled at West Jones last weekend due to weather. Teams will return to action after Christmas when they play in the Oxford Tournament Saturday, Jan. 4th.

BOWLING: Both teams won the Tupelo Holiday Tournament yesterday at Rebelanes. THS will host Starkville Jan. 2nd at Rebelanes at 3:30.

BAND: Band director Tim Matlock was named to the Top 50 of  School Band and Orchestra’s Directors Who Made a Difference in 2013.

 

BLANKETS OF THE WEEK:

  • Seniors Quinn Tiggs, James Gilleylen, Reed Bigham, Hunter Jones, and Denarius Norman represented THS at the 65th Benard Blackwell All-Star Classic.
  • Juniors Marqueesha Hoskins (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Asia Partlow (10 points, 12 rebounds) tallied double-doubles against No. 8 Pontotoc Friday night.
  • Junior Georgeanna Bowen was a motivational anchor in Saturday’s win over Kossuth. Junior Cody Chambers kept his team moving forward in their win over West Union.
