Review, Preview, and Blankets of the Week (January 5)

BASKETBALL: Golden Wave basketball (8-7) defeated Neshoba Central in yesterday’s New Hope Trojan Classic. The No. 9-ranked Lady Wave (12-1) was handed their first loss of the season by No. 5 New Hope. Both teams will travel to DeSoto Central Tuesday before opening division at home Friday against Hernando. They will also travel to Aberdeen Saturday.

SOCCER: Both squads participated in yesterday’s round-robin tournament at Oxford. No. 3-ranked Lady Wave soccer (9-0, 2-0) defeated Southaven and Oxford while the No. 4-ranked Golden Wave (7-0-1, 2-0) took care of Jackson Academy and Jackson Prep. Both teams will host Grenada Tuesday and travel to Jackson to face Clinton, Germantown, and Brandon this weekend.

BOWLING: Both teams were off last week. THS will travel to Southaven Thursday and battle DeSoto Central 3:30. Sophomore Taylor Russell is currently competing in the Team USA bowling trials in Las Vegas until Thursday of this week. Today she finished 53rd out of 105 nationally. She’s currently 85th overall with yesterday’s points.



  •  Sophomore guard Darius Wilson came off the bench to hit three consecutive 3-pointers in Tupelo’s win over Neshoba Central.
  • Senior forward Charde Hannah had six goals in the Lady Wave’s two soccer wins in Oxford. Sophomore keeper Madeline Harrison didn’t allow a goal the entire weekend.
  • Junior defender Sam Dexter scored a pivotal goal yesterday for Golden Wave soccer.
