Review, Preview, and Blankets of the Week (November 10)

FOOTBALL: For the first time since 1999, Tupelo football (10-1, 6-1) finished the regular season with 10 wins. The Golden Wave shut out Olive Branch on Senior Night 7-0 and locked the No. 2 seed in Div. 1-6A. The win was also first over the Conquistadors since 2003. THS nows enters the playoffs for the 24th time in school history.

Tupelo hosts Warren Central Friday at 7 p.m. The last time WC and THS met was the 1st Round of 5A Playoffs in 2005… THS won 3-0. The winner will face the winner of DeSoto Central-Madison Central Friday, November 15th. As always, you can watch the Friday’s 1st Round game LIVE at

XC: SWEEP! Both teams recaptured state championships Saturday at Clinton. After disappointing losses to Ocean Springs in the finals last year, THS XC came into the 2013 season on a mission. The girls won their 12th title since 2001, the boys took their 11th. Together, both programs have 33 state championships in their history at THS.

Junior Darnell Collier won the 6A 5K race, senior Andrew White placed second, senior Michael Robinson got 7th, and junior Max Lawson, senior Mako Dijkwel, and sophomore Logan Long finished 16th, 17th, and 18th. On the girls’ side, junior Christina Daniels placed 4th, 7th grader Savannah Hudgins got 8th, junior Mika Takahashi got 10th, senior Sabrina Hudgins got 11th, and 8th grader Anna McCoy got 14th for THS.

BASKETBALL: After a week “off”, THS basketball will open the 2013-2014 season hosting their annual Golden Wave Tip-Off Challenge Tuesday. New Hope-Center Hill girls will tip at 4, boys at 5:30. Lady Wave and Golden Wave will host West Point at 7, boys at 8:30. Both teams will also also Mooreville Thursday at 6 and 7:30. This game was originally scheduled for Friday but Tupelo’s football playoffs moved it back a day.

SOCCER: Just like basketball, THS soccer will open the season hosting Saltillo at Ballard Park Thursday at 5 and 7 p.m. Until football concludes, Ballard will host home contests.

BOWLING: Susan Dudley’s teams will open their season against East Union at Rebelanes Friday at 4. Boys and girls varsity will bowl first, and JV will follow.



  • Junior defensive lineman Demarcus Rogers had 10.5 tackles (four for a loss, six solo, and one assisted) in Tupelo’s 7-0 win over Olive Branch Friday.
  • Seniors Andrew White, Michael Robinson and Mako Dijkwel had an incredible grinding consistency though heat, mud, and cold. These three guys have been Tupelo XC’s top five runners for every race this year, from instrasquad in August to the state meet yesterday.
