A pair of Tupelo seniors from two different sports continued their careers Tuesday morning. Braxton Thomas signed Millsaps Majors women’s basketball team, and Christina Daniels will run both track and cross country for Loyola University.
Thomas averaged 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals during her senior campaign for the Lady Wave. She shoot 30% behind the three point line, and notched a season-high 23 points against 6A runner-up Olive Branch last December. “She’s one of the most consistent players on and off the court the last four years,” said head coach Matt Justice. She’s the fifth member of her 2015 class to continue to the next level. Division III Millsaps College in Jackson finished 22-6 last season and 12-2 in the Southern Athletic Association.
Daniels has won a number of individual and team awards during her high school career. She was a member of the Lady Wave cross country team for six years (All-State member every season) and Tupelo track and field for five. She led her team to 6A state titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, and she was the individual 6A champion in 2011 (runner-up in 2010 and 2012). She also won Gatorade Mississippi Runner of the Year in 2011. In track, she was the 3200 meter 6A state runner-up in 2013 and third in 2012. The Loyola Greyhounds are a Division I school that participates in the Patriot League in Baltimore, Maryland.
